Frequently Asked Questions
-
Are there live sessions?
-
How long do I have access to the course?
Your access to the video lessons and notes won't expire. Access to the Starry Night Simulation Software lasts for one year. After that year is done, you'll need to reach out to us for another code to continue using the software. Renewing the software access does have a small cost (about $10).
-
Is there a supply list?
Not yet, but there will be. We try to pick projects where the supplies are easily acquired.
-
Are there any pre-requisites?
No. A typical middle school student will be ready for the course.
-
Are there scholarships available?
Scholarships for Astronomy were awarded Nov 1, 2024. A big thanks to our patrons who make these scholarships possible.
-
Will the course work for students in the southern hemisphere?
The Starry Night simulation software we use is a program where you can input any location in the world - so it works well for the Southern Hemisphere. Most of our units are not hemisphere specific (eg, understanding moon phases, star types and star formation, black holes, space exploration etc). When we talk about latitude and star finding, many examples come from the Northern Hemisphere. If you don't mind a Northern Hemisphere bias for some of the star finding, the course would be a good fit for students in the Southern Hemisphere.
What our students say -
The passion you have for your respective subjects is evident and contagious. Please keep doing the wonderful work you do. We are so grateful!
The doodle notes were excellent, and provided a good introduction for my daughter to guided note-taking. We would 100% recommend these courses.
Yours was my 13 year old's favorite class! The guided notes were fun and engaging, and I was amazed at how much material he learned and retained.
