By the end of this course, students will:
- Understand how Earth’s systems — geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere — interact.
- Be able to interpret maps, charts, and geological data.
- Recognize the forces that shape weather, climate, and ecosystems.
- Apply scientific thinking to real-world environmental challenges.
Projects and Activities
Each week includes a hands-on project or investigation, from mapping volcanoes to building a model delta or creating an invasive species comic.
Every third lesson is a project designed to deepen understanding, foster creativity, and encourage independent thinking.

How is this course different than your 4th/5th-grade Earth Science course?
Geoscience is targeted at the middle school Next Generation Science Standards, while Earth Science was aimed at the NGSS for grades 4 and 5. You can think of Geoscience as a second semester of Earth Science. The Geoscience course also pairs well with the Astronomy course in fulfilling the Middle School Earth and Space Sciences Standards.
Is the course live or recorded?
It's all recorded or self-paced. The course was originally taught as a live course in the spring of 2026.
